Title: About Calculatax: Independent Australian Calculators
Last updated: 2026-11-07

Calculatax is a free set of [Australian tax & pay calculators](https://calculatax.com/) for income tax, take-home pay, super, HELP repayments and GST. The calculators use 2026-27 rates published by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and other government sources, and say so when a page uses an earlier year's figure. The results are general estimates, not advice.

## What Calculatax is

Calculatax is an independent website, and it's free to use. We check every rate against its official source, and the steps are set out in our [methodology](https://calculatax.com/methodology/). To contact us, email [hello@calculatax.com](mailto:hello@calculatax.com).

## What we build and what we do not do

We build calculators and short guides that show how Australian tax and pay rules apply to a set of inputs. Each calculator page states the rates it uses, shows a worked example and lists what it doesn't cover.

We don't give personal tax, legal or financial advice. A calculator result depends only on the figures you enter and the published rates.

Our calculators can't replace a registered tax agent or a licensed financial adviser. Where your situation is outside what a calculator models, the page says so. The [disclaimer](https://calculatax.com/disclaimer/) sets out the limits in full.

## How rates are kept current

Every rate, threshold and date we use comes from an official source, and we record where each one came from. The main sources are:

- The ATO, for income tax rates, offsets, the Medicare levy, HELP thresholds, PAYG withholding schedules, super caps and GST.
- The Fair Work Ombudsman and the Fair Work Commission, for the national minimum wage.
- The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), for average and median earnings.
- Services Australia and the Department of Social Services, for Age Pension age, rates and deeming.
- The ABS, for life expectancy.

The current figures were checked against those sources on 1 November 2026.

### Two figures and where they come from

The national minimum wage of $26.44 an hour from 1 July 2026 comes from the [Fair Work Ombudsman's minimum wage increase media release](https://www.fairwork.gov.au/newsroom/media-releases/2026-media-releases/july-2026/20260701-minimum-wage-increase-media-release). The 15% rate on income from $18,201 to $45,000 comes from the [ATO tax rates for Australian residents](https://www.ato.gov.au/tax-rates-and-codes/tax-rates-australian-residents) and the legislation behind it.

Most tax and super figures change on 1 July. We update the calculators for the new financial year, and our [methodology](https://calculatax.com/methodology/) lists the rates they use.

Some figures arrive later. The 2026-27 Medicare levy low-income thresholds, for example, are normally set in the following May Budget. Until then, we use the latest announced thresholds and label them that way.

> When a figure is not yet confirmed by an official source, we don't guess. The page shows the latest confirmed value with its year, or says the figure is pending.

## Report an error or contact us

If a result looks wrong, tell us.

1. **Send us the details.** Please include the calculator, the inputs you used and the figure you expected.
2. **We check your report.** We check every report against the current ATO rules.
3. **We fix confirmed errors.** We correct confirmed errors.

You can reach us through the [contact page](https://calculatax.com/contact/) or by email at [hello@calculatax.com](mailto:hello@calculatax.com). We can't answer questions about your own tax affairs; the ATO or a registered tax agent can.
