Title: Disclaimer: General Information Only | Calculatax
Last updated: 2026-11-06

The [Australian tax & pay calculators](https://calculatax.com/) on Calculatax give general information and estimates based on 2026-27 rates from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and other government sources. They are not tax, legal or financial advice. Your actual tax is set by the ATO when it assesses your return.

## General information only

Our calculators and guides explain how published rules apply to the figures you enter. They do not take into account your objectives, financial situation or needs.

We check every rate against its official source and record the date we checked it. Rules can still change after that date, and a page may not yet reflect a change. Check the date shown on a page, and confirm anything you plan to rely on with the ATO or an adviser. [About Calculatax](https://calculatax.com/about/) explains how rates are kept current.

Links to government websites are provided for convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content.

## Not tax, legal or financial advice

> Calculatax does not provide tax agent services, legal services or personal financial product advice. Nothing on this site recommends that you take, or avoid, any course of action with your money, super or tax affairs.

A calculator can show what a rule produces for a set of inputs. It cannot tell you which inputs are right for you, whether you are eligible for a deduction or offset, or how the ATO will treat a particular payment. Those questions call for a registered tax agent, a registered BAS agent or a licensed financial adviser.

## Estimates vs your notice of assessment

Your notice of assessment from the ATO is the final word on your tax for a year. A calculator estimate can differ from it for several reasons:

- You had income, deductions or offsets that you did not enter.
- Some 2026-27 thresholds, such as the Medicare levy low-income thresholds, are not yet announced. We use the latest announced values until they are.
- Your residency, private health cover, family situation or study loan changed during the year.
- PAYG withholding during the year is an estimate made by your employer, not the final tax.

The last point is easy to miss. This example uses the [ATO Schedule 1 coefficients for weekly payments](https://www.ato.gov.au/tax-rates-and-codes/payg-withholding-schedule-1-statement-of-formulas-for-calculating-amounts-to-be-withheld/coefficients-to-use-in-formulas-for-withholding-from-weekly-payments) and the [ATO tax rates for Australian residents](https://www.ato.gov.au/tax-rates-and-codes/tax-rates-australian-residents).

**$6,500 a month in 2026-27**

| Step | Working | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule 1 withholding over 12 months | $1,296 a month | +$15,552 |
| Income tax plus the Medicare levy | On $78,000 for 2026-27 | −$15,480 |
| **More withheld than is owed** | | **$72** |

*On those figures alone, before any deductions or other income are counted.*

The [methodology](https://calculatax.com/methodology/) page lists the formulas we use and the situations our calculators do not model.

## When to see a registered tax agent

A registered tax agent can give advice about your own circumstances and lodge returns on your behalf. You can check that an agent is registered on the Tax Practitioners Board register.

Consider getting professional help when:

- You run a business, have rental property or sold assets such as shares or property.
- You moved to or from Australia during the year, or have foreign income.
- You received a termination payment, a large back payment or a lump sum.
- A calculator result is very different from what the ATO assessed.
- You are unsure whether a deduction, offset or exemption applies to you.

For superannuation strategy, retirement planning or investment decisions, a licensed financial adviser is the right contact.
