Title: Editorial Policy: How We Check Content | Calculatax
Last updated: 2026-11-07

This policy explains how we research, write, check and update the content behind our [Australian tax & pay calculators](https://calculatax.com/). We take figures from official sources, and we use AI tools to help draft the text.

## Who writes our content

Calculatax writes and publishes every page, and the site doesn't name individual authors. We draft pages with the help of AI writing tools, working from a register of verified rates.

## Source standards

We go to primary sources first. Each figure in our register records its source page, the year it applies to and the date we checked it. If two official pages disagree, we check the legislation and note the discrepancy in our records.

| Topic | Where we get it |
|---|---|
| Tax, super and GST | Australian Taxation Office (ATO), and the legislation on the Federal Register of Legislation |
| Pay rates | Fair Work Commission and Fair Work Ombudsman |
| Earnings statistics and life tables | Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) |
| Age Pension age and deeming | Services Australia |
| Pension rates | Department of Social Services |

> **When a figure isn't out yet, we say so.** You'll see the latest confirmed value with its year, or a note that the figure is pending. We won't estimate an unannounced rate and show it as fact.

## The 1 July update cycle

Most Australian tax and super figures change on 1 July, the start of the financial year. Our update work runs on the same calendar.

1. **May: the Federal Budget.** The Budget can announce changes. We note what's legislated and what's only proposed.
2. **June: new ATO schedules.** The ATO publishes its withholding schedules, such as the [ATO Schedule 1 for payments from 1 July 2026](https://www.ato.gov.au/tax-rates-and-codes/payg-withholding-schedule-1-statement-of-formulas-for-calculating-amounts-to-be-withheld/about-this-schedule). HELP debts are indexed on 1 June too, at the [ATO study and training loan indexation rates](https://www.ato.gov.au/tax-rates-and-codes/study-and-training-support-loans-indexation-rates).
3. **June: the minimum wage.** The Fair Work Commission sets the new minimum wage. It announced the 2026 increase on 2 June 2026, as the [Fair Work Ombudsman minimum wage media release](https://www.fairwork.gov.au/newsroom/media-releases/2026-media-releases/july-2026/20260701-minimum-wage-increase-media-release) records.
4. **1 July: the new rates.** We switch the calculators to the new financial year's rates.
5. **After July: later figures.** Some figures come out later, such as the Medicare levy low-income thresholds. We add them once they're announced.

We last checked our current figures against their sources on 1 November 2026.

## Corrections policy

If we get something wrong, we fix it. Anyone can report an error through our [contact page](https://calculatax.com/contact/), and we check each report against the official source.

Confirmed errors are corrected on the page.

## How we use AI tools

We use AI writing tools to draft and edit page text. We don't use them as a source of rates or rules.

Calculator results come from code that reads our rates files, and automated tests hold each calculator's default result to that code. The figures in worked examples are calculated from the same rates.

We don't publish reviews, testimonials or case studies. Every figure comes from our tested calculator engine or from an official source linked on the page. We use AI tools to help draft and check pages, and every rate and threshold is checked against its source before it goes live. Plain-English definitions of the terms we use are in the [Australian tax glossary](https://calculatax.com/glossary/), and the limits of what we publish are in our [disclaimer](https://calculatax.com/disclaimer/).
