Seven business days after payday

From 1 July 2026, super is due in your fund within 7 business days after payday. It has to be received and able to be allocated, so paying late in the window is a risk. The ATO's Payday Super page (opens in a new tab) explains the changeover, and the Payday Superannuation Act (opens in a new tab) sets the rule.

About public holidays. A public holiday for a whole state or territory doesn't count as a business day, wherever you are. We count weekdays only, so the legal date can be later than the one shown, never earlier.

What counts as qualifying earnings

Super is 12% of qualifying earnings, which replaced ordinary time earnings. The ATO qualifying earnings page (opens in a new tab) has the full table.

  • CountsOrdinary pay, casual loading, shift penalties, commissions, and super you sacrifice.
  • Doesn't countOvertime that's clearly separate, and amounts sacrificed to a novated lease or other benefits.

The super guarantee calculator works out super on a salary, and the super guarantee rate page has the rate by year.

The maximum contribution base

Your employer can stop paying the minimum once your qualifying earnings reach $270,830 for 2026-27. Each employer tests this separately, so two jobs can both pay up to the base. It's now a yearly figure.
